Pineapple Folk Yuletide Gathering
I got up late today and took Ilja to the Tate Modern, where we met Steffi. She showed us around the gallery and explained a few things (she studies art history).
Unfortunately, I didn't have much time, as I had tickets for Finn and me for the "Pineapple Folk Yuletide Gathering" at the Union Chapel. I met Finn there are we had to wait at the long line for a while before getting in. The venue is an old church, about 100 years old and not unlike my church back home. It made for a great atmosphere and acoustics!
We couldn't find the promised mulled wine and roasted chestnuts but the concert was amazing!!! :) At first we saw Alasdair Roberts, who was quite nice. Right afterwards came the Mountain Goats, the reason we went to the concert. John Darnielle (the guy who is the Mountain Goats) played for about an hour and played a mix songs from the last 5 records or so, including some very old songs. John also played the title song for the upcoming new album "Heretic Pride". Towards the end he called Eddie Argos from Art Brut on stage and they sang "The Best ever Death Metal Band out of Denton" together (see video below)!!! Amazing!!! Not only is this my favorite Mountain Goats song, but I also met Eddie last year at the Immergut festival and it was just plain crazy and incredible to see them sing the song together on stage! Awesome!
John played another song as an encore and then it was Micah P. Hinson's turn. He was quite good and reminded me of Will Johnson, who I also saw recently. He did a great version of "Silent Night".
After his set, he called his girlfriend on stage, told her how much she loves her, went to his knees, pulled out a ring and propose to her!!! How amazing is that! Everyone was stunned. Seriously, how much better can it get.
The icing on the cake was that I met John after the concert and got an autograph. :)))
