Shanghai

I arrived in Shanghai this morning and started looking at the city, after sorting a few things out online this morning.
I decided to skip Xi'an, as hard as it is. I booked a flight to Hong Kong for Sunday (instead of a 24h train), from where I will fly to London on Thursday, August 23rd.
The overnight train ride was quite nice. I had a soft sleeper bed in a 4 people room. The other people were nice but didn't speak English. One of them snored though... The trip from Beijing to Shanghai took 12 hours, which was perfect.
As I'm not couchsurfing here in Shanghai I'm staying at a hostel again. It's a strange feeling. But it also allowed me to explore the neighborhood on my own. I still can't believe how cheap some things are. I had lunch for 40 cents today and dinner for 50¢, adding a big bottle of beer for 40¢.
In Shanghai I took the subway to the Bund and walked along the waterfront for a while. The Pudong skyline is truly amazing. It looks right out of a science fiction movie. And they are still building even higher skyscrapers. And the other side looks just like midtown New York.
I also went to the famous Nanjing road and the people's square. Again, people tried to sell me stuff and lure me into some stupid scams all the time. It's getting frustrating after a while... Tomorrow I plan to go to the French concession.
