Hilo

This morning I tried again at hitching a ride to Hilo on the other side of the island. And it actually worked this time! :) I got rides from 4 different people, the longest with a Swiss guy who was living in Alaska and is just working in Hawaii for a little while. He also took me down to the Punalu'u black sand beach where we saw some green sea turtles and dozed in the sun for a bit. I arrived in Hilo late afternoon and went to the house where I'm couchsurfing now. There are about 6 student living here and they are seem to be really nice and relaxed. I went over to the local hostel as well and met another Swiss guy there who gave me some tips about what to do around here. We hung out for a while and had a beer together, until I went back to the house. I will probably hike to some waterfalls and boiling pots tomorrow. And I really hope I can manage to go and see the lava flows around here.
